The IoT Forum 2015 is a mere 15 days away. Last years event was recognised as a Top Three in the World; on the 11th-12th March this year we will continue the momentum with another stellar line-up of speakers and world class audience of investors, disruptive startups and industry leading corporates having industry shaping discussions.

A busy week for the alumni of our IoT Forum Ones to Watch companies at the BLN IoT Forum. AlertMe has been acquired by British Gas in a deal worth $100 million. AlertMe powered the technology behind Hive, the connected homes platform that currently sits in over 500,000 homes and this deal means British Gas will be using the platform to expand into millions of homes.

Though many connected products seem better suited for the Jetsons than the Joneses, the connected world is not far away – and its potential is enormous. McKinsey Global Institute says the Internet of Things (IoT) could drive economic impact of $6.2 trillion or more, annually, by 2025. In terms of units, Cisco predicts the IoT will comprise more than 50 billion devices by 2020, up from 10 billion today. It’s clear the IoT will create unprecedented revenue and value generation opportunities, but it will be hard to fully realize the potential if the focus of the IoT remains only on devices, not the broader benefits of an ecosystem.
